Nium Introduces Spencer Hanlon As Its Chief Operating Officer

Cross-border payments firm, Nium, said Spencer Hanlon is now the company’s Chief Operating Officer (COO). Before this appointment, Hanlon was Nium’s leader for Travel, heading one of its fastest-growing sectors. He started with the company in 2021 when it bought Ixaris Group Ltd., where he was Chairman.

Nium Says The Appointment Of Hanlon Will Help Boost Its Services

Hanlon will manage and expand Nium’s daily activities in his new job to the company’s next growth stage. He will focus on critical long-term plans, global technical support, and bringing in new clients. The company said Hanlon will continuously provide updates to its Chief Executive Officer, Prajit Nanu.

Nanu said Spencer has been a significant individual in Nium for the last three years. Spencer has shown outstanding leadership across different areas and understands how to grow well. Nanu said making Spencer Chief Operating Officer was an obvious choice. Spencer’s ideas and hard work have helped Nium succeed.

The new Nium’s Chief Operating Officer stays in London. He established the travel section at Nium and grew it from a local firm to a significant provider of virtual cards, among the top globally. The company revealed it received twice its revenue from virtual cards in Asia from 2022 to 2023.  It said the Asian market is its primary focus.

Hanlon Has Expressed Honor In Leading Nium’s Teams Worldwide

Hanlon commented on his appointment. He said he had served Nium for the last three years and watched the company succeed through its cross-border payment services. He noted that it’s a great honor to lead intelligent, dedicated, and fun-loving teams worldwide in one of the most admired fintechs in the world.

Before joining Nium, Hanlon had served British Airways for ten years  Spencer built his career in travel payments for nearly twenty years at Lufthansa’s AirPlus International. He managed sales, customer service, operations, processing, and marketing teams there. He eventually became the Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of AirPlus International GmbH at their main office in Frankfurt, Germany.

Nium believes that Hanlon’s appointment will strengthen the company’s leadership team and improve how well it serves its customers, stakeholders, and partners.

Hanlon takes over from Pratik Gandhi, who joined Nium in 2016 and became the company’s Chief Operating Officer in 2019. Gandhi will step back from his role in the company before the year concludes. He will still be involved with Nium as an advisor to Nium’s Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder Emeritus.
