Helder Rosalino Confirmed to Lead Keynote Address at EBAday 2024

Helder Rosalino, a member of the board of directors at Banco de Portugal since 2014, has been confirmed to take to the stage to open the EBAday show in Lisbon, Portugal, for the 2024 event. He comes with many years of experience in exploring the roadmap for a safe and modern payments market.

Rosalino has spent most part of his working time at critical sectors, including innovation management, accounting, and financial control, information technology, payment systems, monetary issuance, and reserve management at the central bank.

The Event Aims To Advance Payment Systems

The head of payment systems at the Bank of Spain, Carlos A. Sanz Luengo, is also part of the two-day event.

Luengo has worked with the Bank of Spain since 1993, holding various positions in the organization, the majority of which were in reserve management and monetary policy over his 30-year tenure. However, he held these major positions from 1999 to 2018, gaining expertise from different organization.

The Banco de Portugal, known as the Bank of Portugal, act as the member of the Portuguese Eurosystem and has been Portugal’s monetary authority from 1846 to 1998. It also published the Portuguese escudo during that period.

The Banco de Portugal was set up in 1846 by Portugal’s Queen Maria II during her reign. It was formed by the merger of the insurer Companhia Confiança Nacional. It has been Portugal’s national competent authority in European Banking Supervision since 2014. The bank has a long history with the Portuguese government.

The keynote will mark the opening session of the two-day conference. It will cover a wide range of payment-related topics, including instant payments, cross-border payments, and CBDCs.

The bank was selected by the Portuguese Crown to issue the official currency, the Portuguese Real, until it was discontinued in 1911. After Portugal became a Republic in 1910, the bank started issuing the Portuguese Escudo.

Banco De Portugal Wants To Improve Payment Systems

Rosalino has experience across several platforms. He will be able to share views from the Portuguese market. He is bringing insights to the table, particularly from the European Central Bank’s high-level group for the digital euro further.

The Portuguese bank is looking to improve the payment system and its underlying technology. Rosalino became part of the bank’s team in 1994. Since then, he has held several positions, including as the head of the human resources management.

With Rosalino appointed as a major speaker in EBAday 2024 event, Banco de Portugal is committed to advancing payment systems across several financial markets.
